On the morning of June 24, the meeting of 2023 Master's Degree in Applied Statistics Internship in the College of Science was held in 22515, Teaching Building II. He Li, vice dean of the College of Science, the leadership team of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, representatives of the supervisors and all the 2023 Master of Applied Statistics students attended the meeting, which was presided over by He Xiaoxia, deputy director of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
First of all, Vice Dean He Li introduced the latest document spirit of the Ministry of Education, the cultivation program of Master of Applied Statistics, graduation requirements, etc. He emphasized the importance of the internship practice work in this specialty and introduced the construction of the graduate internship practice base of our institute.
He Xiaoxia, Deputy Director of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, introduced in detail the internship requirements and specific operation plan of Applied Statistics. He also explained the materials related to the internship practice of graduate students majoring in applied statistics, "Letter of Commitment for Off-campus Practice of Professional Degree Graduate Students of Wuhan University of Science and Technology", "Professional Practice Plan Form for Professional Degree Graduate Students of Wuhan University of Science and Technology", and "Summary Report of Professional Practice of Professional Degree Graduate Students and Assessment and Evaluation Form".
Finally, Director Liu Yunbing of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics emphasized the importance of practical work in internship. It is hoped that students can apply the professional knowledge learned in the classroom to practical work after half a year of internship. Through practice, they can better understand and master the principles and methods of statistics, cultivate practical problem-solving ability, and gain a deeper understanding of the career development direction and industry application of the applied statistics major.
Our master's program in applied statistics was declared successfully in 2022, with the first enrollment of 36 students in 2023 and 43 students in 2024. In recent years, the College of Science has made great efforts to build the master's degree program in applied statistics, and has built 13 postgraduate internship practice bases with enterprises and institutions.
